Mummy director tackles new fantasy lit series.
by Stax
September 21, 2006 - Stephen Sommers, the director of The Mummy films and Van Helsing, will produce and direct Nightmare Academy for Universal Pictures.
The project is based on a forthcoming fantasy lit series by Dean Lorey, the co-exec producer of Arrested Development. HarperCollins Children's Books will publish the books in the U.S. and the U.K. as part of a seven-figure, three-book deal, reports Variety.
The screenplay for the film version of Nightmare Academy will also be penned by Lorey.
The film deal was actually made before the property was sold to HarperCollins, a move that reportedly sweetened the pot when it came to shopping it to publishers.
Nightmare Academy follows "a boy who learns his bad dreams are opening portals that allow dangerous creatures into the world," according to Variety.

This sounds cool. I wonder if they will get the book out quickly. I definitely want to read it.
